Voice Surgery Head and Neck Tumors

WHAT IS VOICE SURGERY?

The voice is our most fundamental means of communication. Lesions such as nodules, polyps, cysts, or conditions such as vocal cord paralysis on the vocal cords can significantly impair voice quality and significantly impact daily and professional life. Voice surgery involves delicate microsurgical procedures to correct such problems.

Op. Dr. Koray Kırbıyık diagnoses the underlying cause of hoarseness and other voice disorders through a detailed endoscopic examination. When necessary, he aims to restore the natural tone and quality of the voice by removing lesions in the vocal cords without damaging the surrounding tissue. These treatments are crucial for teachers, vocal artists, and all professionals who work with the voice.

WHAT ARE HEAD AND NECK TUMORS?

The head and neck region contains vital organs such as the larynx, pharynx, oral cavity, nose, sinuses, and salivary glands. Benign or malignant tumors that develop in these areas can cause serious health problems. Symptoms such as neck swelling, persistent hoarseness, difficulty swallowing, or non-healing sores should be evaluated by an ENT specialist.

Op. Dr. Koray Kırbıyık takes a meticulous approach to the early diagnosis and surgical treatment of head and neck tumors. Accurate diagnosis at an early stage is the most critical factor in successful treatment. A detailed examination and evaluation at our clinic will help us develop the most appropriate treatment plan for your condition.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long will I be prohibited from talking after surgery?
Voice rest is crucial for the delicate healing process of the vocal cords. Depending on the procedure, absolute voice rest (including whispering) is generally recommended for 3 to 7 days.
Because it's performed using microsurgical techniques, using very fine instruments under a microscope, it's a very safe procedure. The most significant risk is that the voice won't recover to the desired quality. To minimize this risk, it's crucial to follow vocal rest guidelines.
Surgery permanently resolves structural problems such as vocal cord nodules or polyps. However, if the underlying vocal cord misuse (yelling, smoking, etc.) persists, there is a risk of new lesions developing. Therefore, postoperative voice therapy may also be recommended.
After a period of vocal rest, the voice is gradually reintroduced. Significant improvements in voice quality are usually noticeable within a few weeks, although the final results may take several months to become apparent.
